I have finally got round to looking at the welcome pack that the university I will be starting in september has sent me, and of corse there is a summer project that I have been set. Thankfully It is not to big and shouldn't take so long to do. Just a couple of small research tasks. It actually feels really good having something to focus on and set my mind on.
The Task, or the part I am working on at the moment is to research 1 key future trend, which may be influenced by literally anything that can influence fashion. And i already have a rather lot of photos to chose from. but hear is my up and coming trend. "It's A Grimm Grimm World"
I have been influenced by the brothers grim fairy tales, these are more haunting and much darker than the ones we know and love from Disney, Many of the catwalk shows for A/W 2012/13 have depicted a dark romanticism which echos the Grimm's stories, for example the image above just screams "little red ridding hood"
As well as invading the catwalks fairy tales are casting their spell else wear too, in the last few months the films "Snow White And The Huntsman" and "Mirror Mirror" have graced the big screens, and more are to follow.
" 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters'
It is set 15 years after the siblings' traumatic gingerbread-house incident, when they are bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.
'Maleficent'the tail of sleeping beauty told through the eyes of her evil step mother
'Pan'
dark re-imagining of author J.M. Barrie's tale of Peter Pan. Bean plays Smee, a cop who aids former detective Hook (Aaron Eckhart) in his pursuit of a childlike kidnapper. AnnaSophia Robb ("Soul Surfer") joins them as Wendy, the only kid who's ever escaped the villain's clutches.
'The Little Mermaid'
Hans Christian Andersen classic. It's the tale of a young mermaid who gives up her life aquatic to love a human prince on land. in the original story the little mermaid actually takes her life as well as that of the prince and the evil witch.
'Sleeping Beauty'
The iconic princess is taken on a journey to explore her dream world while she simultaneously tries to escape it.
'Hansel and Gretel 3-D'
"If you end up lost in the woods, you may just find yourself." a young brother and sister surviving a wicked witch in her gingerbread house. It's set to be shot in Germany, the origin country of the classic tale.
'Jack the Giant Killer'
Fee-fi-fo fum. The story of jack climbing the been stalk up to the giants castle.
'Enchanted 2'
Disney sequel to the blockbuster 2007 film, which brought the fairy tale princess to real-life New York City in her quest for love.
'Arabian Nights'
Ali Baba has to rescue Persian Queen Scheherazade and her kingdom from dark powers.
'Pinocchio'
this is certain to be a darker version of the classic children's fairy tale of a wooden puppet that transforms into a real living boy. Daniel Radcliffe is rumored to star, with a shoot planned to start next summer. " (http://www.nextmovie.com/blog/fairy-tale-movies-in-development/)
So with this many films as well as theater productions and ballets, I don't think its any wonder that a little bit of its magic will be rubbing off on our wardrobes.
After all isn't there a little princess in all of us just waiting to be rescued?
